The reorganization of the ACEEEO Documentation Centre

A great number of election documents (election law, books, information bulletins, ballot papers) has been piled up in the last 10 years in the Documentation Centre. Besides the issues of the member countries related to elections, many documents of the Western European countries (Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Austria, France, etc...), and overseas countries (the United States of America, Canada, the Philippines, etc...) have been gathered in the Documentation storage place.

At the moment, those who intend to carry out research on the basis of these documents, certainly meet difficulties, though many of them have already been registered in the computer registration system. According to the recommendation of the ACEEEO Secretariat, we will launch a new system for registering election documents in cooperation with the Political Sciences Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The United Library of Social Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has committed itself to registering election materials separately and at the same time it provides access for the visitors of the Library to the election documents. The implementation of the professional registration and administration systems of election materials has made it a more advanced means of research and the group of users of the library system has also increased enormously.

The reorganization of the Documentation Centre has been started. The thematic enumeration of the documents is now in progress as well as their handing over for the Library. After the completion of this process the existing election publications will become easy to search either according to countries or election institutes (nomination, campaign, vote counting, etc...). In the future as a result of the established system the expansion of the stock, the computer registration process and provision of access to the materials will be continuous.
