ACEEEO held its annual conference in Siófok, Hungary between September 27-30, 1995. This conference was made possible with support from IFES and financial help from sponsors. During the conference an exhibition was held with the title "Using Technical Devices and Computers in Elections". The conference, which was opened by Mr. Árpád Göncz, the President of the Republic of Hungary, saw participants from seventeen countries and three continents. Every representative from each participating country gave a short overview of their own election systems and their technological background. Parallel to the conference fifteen exhibiting companies presented their technical devices in operation, which were observed by almost two thousand officials. Mrs. Julianna G. Pilon (IFES) wrote an article on the conference in "Elections Today", pointing out that one of the criteria for fair elections is the expeditious and precise publication of election results and that this cannot be realised without the use of computers in the electoral process.
