The president is elected by universal suffrage to serve five-years term.The free presidential, parliamentary and municipal elections in Belarus are realized on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage and secret ballot. The Parliament is bicameral: the National Assembly (Natsionalnoye Sobranie) consists of the Council of the Republic (Soviet Respubliki, with 64 seats – 56 members elected by regional councils and 8 members appointed by the president, to serve four-year terms), and of the Chamber of Representatives (Palata Predstaviteley, with 110 seats – members elected by popular vote to serve four-year terms).
