27th Annual Conference and the General Assembly Meeting of the ACEEEO

5-7 September, Vilnius, Lithuania

The Central Electoral Commission of Lithuania and the ACEEEO Secretariat co-organized a successful General Assembly meeting and the Annual Conference in Vilnius entitled ‘Guaranteeing Voter Privacy, Security and Integrity’.

130 electoral professionals from 37 countries accepted our invitation. We had a privilege to welcome the Speaker of the Parliament of the Lithuania, Mr. Viktoras Pranckietis at the opening ceremony. During the two days of the Conference we have listened to 30 outstanding speakers.

During the conference outstanding speakers have elaborated to the topics of ‘Why Voter Privacy, Security, and Integrity Matters – general background’ and ‘Seen and Unseen threats to elections’ at the plenary sessions, but participants had the possibility to engage in discussion of ‘Securing Voting process?’ and ‘Voter privacy’ in the frame of two roundtable discussion, and also in two simultaneous workshops on ‘Cyber Security’ and ‘Integrity’ on the second day.

New Honorary Members

The General Assembly is awarded with an Honorary Membership Csaba Tiberiu Kovacs, former Secretary General of the Permanent Electoral Authority and William (Bill) Sweeney, President and CEO of the IFES for their outstanding contribution to the activities of the Association.

Mr. Kovacs has been the Secretary General of the PEA of Romania since November 2004 and during the time of his service he actively participated in the work of the ACEEEO both on the Executive Board level and providing his comments and advises in professional correspondence of the Secretariat.

Mr. William “Bill” Sweeney is the president and CEO of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), bringing decades of experience to the organization in election-assistance and democracy support. He was appointed president in June 2009 by the IFES Board of Directors. Prior to his appointment as president, Sweeney served on the Board of Directors at IFES from 1993 to 2001, and as chairman from 1999 to 2000. Throughout the decades of his affiliation with the IFES he always supported the ACEEEO’s purpose and assisted the maintenance of the Association both in practical and theoretical way.

We thank both of the excellent Honorary Members and hope to continue our collaboration in the future!

 

New Presidency

During the 27th Annual Conference we had a hand-over of the ACEEEO Presidency. The new President-in-office for the period of 2018-2019 is Mr. Dušan Vučko, Director of the Secretariat of the State Election Commission of Slovenia.
