26th Annual Conference and the General Assembly Meeting of the ACEEEO

8-10 November, Sofia, Bulgaria

Ensure your place at one of the most important events of electoral professionals in Europe and all over the world and register for the 26th Annual Conference of ACEEEO!

The Central Election Commission of Bulgaria hosts the 26th Annual Conference of the Association of European Election Officials on 8-10 November 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The topic for this high-level meeting of EMBs is ‘Conscious voters in the digital age’.

The concept paper of the conference and the draft agenda are available on our website. We are happy to announce, that the agenda is almost full. You will have a chance to listen to great speakers from different parts of the election world.

On 9 November, plenary sessions will present the general background and case studies of the main topic of the conference. In the afternoon we will host a roundtable discussions to find answers for the questions ‘How to reach the younger generation?’ and ‘Digital solutions for supporting the voter’s choice?’.

On 10 November, the workshops will intend to respond the questions ‘Is this our responsibility? The role of the electoral management bodies in making conscious voters’ and ‘Should electoral campaigns be regulated? Theoretical and practical aspects of a restricted political area’. In the afternoon the Speakers of the plenary session ‘Best practices from the world of elections 2017’ are going to share the lessons learnt from the elections of 2016-2017.

20th anniversary of the Central Electoral Commission permanent operation in the Republic of Moldova

16-17 October, Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary of permanent operation the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova, in cooperation with Center for Continuous Electoral Training, and the support of UNDP Moldova, organizing a celebration.

 

2. UPCOMING ELECTIONS IN THE ACEEEO REGION

Presidential elections will be held in the Kyrgyz Republic on 15 October, 2017.

Municipal Elections will be held in Georgia on 21 October, 2017.

International conference on ‘Counting the ballots and accounting for the votes: the use of technology for enhancing the transparency of the electoral processes’

1-2 September, Bucharest, Romania

On 1-2 September 2017 the Association of World Electoral Bodies (A-WEB) in cooperation with the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania organized an international conference on ‘Counting the ballots and accounting for the votes: the use of technology for enhancing the transparency of the electoral processes’.

Upon the invitation of the A-WEB Mr. Zsolt Szolnoki, Secretary General had the privilege to deliver a presentation on ‘ICT and elections: fundaments and dilemmas’.

 

14th European Conference of Electoral Management Bodies - 'Ways of improving the functioning of electoral administrations'

15-16 May 2017, St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

The Venice Commission together with the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation and the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) organized the 14th European Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) Conference.

Ways of improving the functioning of electoral administrations was the main topic of the international conference taking place in the Tavricheskiy Palace, St. Petersburg, Russian Federation on 15-16 May.

The ACEEEO was well-represented at the conference. Participants from the following member-countries attended the event: Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, R. of Moldova, Russian Federation, Slovenia and Turkey.

On behalf of the Secretariat Stepan Ahiy took part in the conference and gave a presentation on the topic of Conscious voters in the digital age.

 

Executive Board meeting

12 May 2017, Sofia, Bulgaria

The ACEEEO Executive Board held its meeting on 12 May 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Presidency of the Association was taken over officially by the Central Election Commission of Bulgaria that will hold it until November 2017. The meeting was chaired by Ivilina Aleksieva-Robinson, president of ACEEEO and chairperson of the CEC Bulgaria. The Executive Board had institutional issues on the agenda, as the Annual Report of 2016, implementation of the Strategic Plan, the preparation of the next Strategic Plan and cooperation plans.

In the afternoon, the Executive Board met with the members of the Central Election Commission who presented the Commission and the election system of Bulgaria.

 

Parliamentary Elections in Armenia

2 April 2017, Yerevan, Armenia

On Sunday, 2 April voters of the Republic of Armenia cast their votes for the members of the National Assembly for the first time since a new constitution was adopted in 2015 that changed Armenia’s government to a parliamentary system.

The Central Election Commission organized a 2-day International Election Visitor Program for their foreign colleagues.

On Saturday the Chairman of the CEC, Mr. Tigran Mukuchyan met the invited guests in the building of the CEC and explained the novelty of the elections.

During the Election Day visitors had the possibility to observe the opening of the polling stations, visited several polling stations in Yerevan and observed the closing of the stations as well as the counting procedures.

Representatives of several ACEEEO Members from Belarus, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and Ukraine attended the organized program.
