In Hungary elections are conducted on the basis of universal and equal suffrage with direct and secret ballot. Every citizen over 18 is eligible to vote. Anybody may be elected who has got a right to vote and has got a permanent address in Hungary. Practicing suffrage depends on the free decision of the citizens. Election of the one chamber parliament is based on the election law of 1990 that has been modified several times yet preserved its essence. The President is elected by the Hungarian Parliament (Orszaggyules) to serve 5-year term. In the Hungarian Parliament, 176 members are elected in single-member constituencies and 210 members are elected through a party-list proportional representation system. All members serve four-year terms.
