A condition for passive election right, besides having the citizenship of the Slovak Republic, is being over 21 years of age and having a permanent residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic.
The President is elected by direct popular vote to serve a 5-year term. In the National Council of the Slovak Republic (Narodna Rada Slovenskej Republiky) 150 members are elected by proportional representation to serve 4-year terms.
