The citizens of the Slovak Republic, who are over 18 years of age and are in the territory of the Slovak Republic on the day of the elections have an active right to vote. A condition for passive election right, besides having the citizenship of the Slovak Republic, is being over 21 years of age and having a permanent residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic.
The President is elected by direct popular vote to serve a 5-year term. In the National Council of the Slovak Republic (Narodna Rada Slovenskej Republiky) 150 members are elected by proportional representation to serve 4-year terms.
