There are free presidential, parliamentary and municipal elections in the Republic. They are realised on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage and secret ballot. The Parliament has got two chambers, it consists of the Body of Representatives and Republic Committee. Elections of the representatives and municipalities are carried out in the single-member constituencies, based on an absolute majority system in the first round and on a relative majority system in the second round. The other chamber is elected by secret ballot. Their members are elected on the meetings of the district and city municipal representatives in every county and in Minsk 8-8 members and 8 further members are nominated by the President. The Parliament consisting of 174 representatives (the Body of Representatives:110; Republic Committee:64) is elected for five years.
