There
are free presidential, parliamentary and municipal elections
in the Republic. They are realised on the basis of universal,
equal and direct suffrage and secret ballot. The Parliament
has got two chambers, it consists of the Body of Representatives
and Republic Committee. Elections of the representatives and
municipalities are carried out in the single-member constituencies,
based on an absolute majority system in the first round and
on a relative majority system in the second round. The other
chamber is elected by secret ballot. Their members are elected
on the meetings of the district and city municipal representatives
in every county and in Minsk 8-8 members and 8 further members
are nominated by the President. The Parliament consisting
of 174 representatives (the Body of Representatives:110; Republic
Committee:64) is elected for five years.
