In Hungary elections are conducted on the basis of universal and equal suffrage with direct and secret ballot. Every citizen over 18 is eligible to vote. Anybody may be elected who has got a right to vote and has got a permanent address in Hungary. Practising suffrage depends on the free decision of the citizens. Election of the one chamber parliament is based on the election law of 1990 that has been modified several times yet preserved its essence. As a result of the elections realised in two rounds in single-member constituencies and on the lists, 176 representatives get in from the single-member constituencies and 210 from the lists.
