citizens of Latvia over 18 have elective franchise while all
citizens of Latvia aged 21 and over are granted rights to
be elected in case no restrictions in the law of elections
apply to them. The 100 members of the Parliament of Latvia
- Saeima - are elected once in four years - deputies are elected
in common, equal, direct, secret and proportional elections.
The latest parliamentary elections were held in 1998.
