The Parliament consists of two chambers: Sejm, the House of Representatives - 460 members and the Senate - 100 members. Members of the Sejm are elected on the basic of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot, based on the regulations of the proportional system, while the members of the Senate are elected in the majority system. Every Polish citizen over 18 has got the right to vote and those over 21 and have lived in Poland for five years may be elected. Citizens living abroad can also cast their votes at the polling stations, established by the representatives of the Polish diplomacy. General elections are supervised by the national electoral commission and conducted by the national electoral office. The validity of the parliamentary elections is determined by the supreme court.
