1. UPCOMING EVENTS

26th Annual Conference of ACEEEO in Sofia

8-10 November, Sofia, Bulgaria

The 26th ACEEEO Annual Conference will be held on 8-10 November 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The topic of the conference will be ‘Conscious voters in the digital age’. The event will be coorganised by the Central Election Commission of Bulgaria. The details are coming soon on our webpage and facebook page.

 

 

ACEEEO Executive Board Meeting

12 May, Sofia, Bulgaria

The Executive Board of ACEEEO will hold its next meeting on 12 May in Sofia, Bulgaria. It is going to deal with the annual reports, the revision of the strategy and other significant institutional issue. The Executive Board is made up of seven representatives of Institutional Members from seven different countries (in this period from Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, and Poland), elected by secret voting at meetings of the Association, for a period of 3 years.

7th Annual Meeting of Election Management Bodies

27-28 February, Borjomi, Georgia

Our member, the Central Election Commission of Georgia organized the 7th Annual Meeting of Election Management Bodies on 27-28 February 2017 in Borjomi, Georgia.  Participants from several electoral management bodies and international organizations gathered to discuss the topic ‘Innovative Services and Effective Electoral Procedures’. From ACEEEO members the representatives of Albania, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine were present. On behalf of the ACEEEO Secretariat, Eszter Bodnár, project manager and legal adviser gave a presentation on the ‘Innovative Electoral Services – ACEEEO Experiences from the Last 25 Years’.

 

Regional workshop – The independence of Arab Electoral Management Bodies: Between Concept and Practice

8-9 February, Tunis, Tunisia

On 8-9 February 2017 the Organization for Arab Electoral Management Bodies (ArabEMBs) in cooperation with the Independent High Electoral Commission in Tunisia organized a Regional Workshop entitled ‘The independence of Arab Electoral Management Bodies: Between Concept and Practice’.

Upon the invitation of the ArabEMBs Mr. Zsolt Szolnoki, Secretary General had the privilege to speak about the Association’s experience in supporting the foundation of independent EMBs in the ACEEEO region.

The ACEEEO is committed to continue to support our colleagues in the Arab region.

 

Global Elections Day 2017

The ACEEEO Community every year on the first Thursday of February celebrates the Global Elections Day.

The main goals of this day are: confirming our belief in the irreversibility of democratic processes; informing the public of new achievements and challenges related to various types of voting systems; draw the attention of parliaments, governments, politicians and world leaders on the importance of their leadership role that they play in promoting a culture of democracy and high levels of voter participation; influencing first-time voters and young voters to commit themselves to democratic values.

On 2 February EMBs of the ACEEEO commemorated the GED for the 12th time.

In this year our members celebrated this date with various programmes.

The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of the Kyrgyz Republic together with their colleagues from different countries also celebrated the Global Elections Day by organizing Open Day for secondary school and university students.

In Moldova the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Moldova (CEC) celebrated for the 10th time the Global Elections Day. 

In Albania the Central Election Commission of Albania celebrated Global Elections Day organizing several activities with students and first-time voters, as an important message to raise awareness of the young generation on the value of democratic elections.

For celebrating the Global Elections Day, the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Lithuania (CEC) organized a round table discussion on “The transparency of political advertising vs. freedom of the media” in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

Moreover, on 2th February the B&H Central Election Commission has in cooperation with the B&H Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees and the B&H Agency for Gender Equality organized an event to promote the initiative mark the Global Elections Day in B&H, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conference was dedicated: "Promoting woman's participation in elections'.

Students from the International Black Sea University visited the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia on the occasion of the Global Elections Day.

The State Election Commission of Macedonia traditionally celebrates the Global Elections Day organizing meaningful events. This year, the SEC of Macedonia celebrated the Global Elections Day holding a meeting with representatives from the Civil Association MOST, which is one of the biggest civil society organisations dealing with electoral matters in Macedonia.

Central Election Commission of Republic of Kosovo, for the fifth time, has joined other countries that marked the Global Elections Day on 2nd of February. Through the marking of this day, Central Election Commission expresses commitment to continue to meet constitutional and legal deadlines, as an independent institution and for advancement of election processes in our country.
